All Original Music!
When I was around 18 or 19 years old. I went to a friend's house to visit. At this time, I had never written a song.
However, I had written a few poems and short stories. I let this person hear a few of my poems. One of the comments I got.
She said the piece would make a good song. At this time I didn't know how to play any type of instrument. However, I was curious to explore my musical abilities.
The fact is, I could constantly hear melodies in my mind while I was actively composing them. And this poem was one of them.
She had an old electric guitar sitting in a corner of a closet; she gave it to me. She said, "Take it and practice." Well, the guitar only had 4 strings.
I bought a cheap tuner and a book to learn how to tune and play the guitar. It has strings 3 through 6; that's it.
However, I, of course, was entirely unfamiliar with how to play a guitar.
So, I started singing this song, "Dreamer Dream Dream," and while I sang, I would pick notes on the guitar.
Until I believed it matched my voice. I will maintain this routine over the coming days; it may extend for a week, although I cannot precisely recall.
But it wasn't very long. And I was playing the music on strings 3 & 4 just as they are played today in this song.
That's right, all the music you hear is from two strings: 3 & 4 or G & D. When I look back on those days, it's wild to think I actually did that. lol
